The Nottingham Building Society

Design and build of a modern concept building society branch.

Edge Retail were pleased to collaborate with the Nottingham Building Society to design, develop and implement a concept branch of the future in their brand new Newark location.

The Nottingham wanted to develop a concept which brought to life their all-under-one-roof proposition in a style which was attractive to existing and new members alike.

Following a successful launch it is expected that the new design will be implemented in other locations going forward.  Key to the brief was to reassure the existing member base whilst encouraging new customers through the door with an exciting new environment and an improved customer journey. Edge Retail worked closely with Eastwood Interior Contractors who managed the unit refurbishment, which involved relocating from historic premises in Market Square to the new unit 100 yards away on Bridge Street.

Branch of the future

The Newark located site in Nottinghamshire was a concept branch representing the ideals of the building society. Key elements such as the open-plan design and new style service desks where customers can stand or be seated modernised the design, meaning a clean but comfortable environment for member visits.

What the client thought

We worked closely with Edge to develop the concept for Newark, which delivered an environment to ensure that our long standing customers continue to receive the standards of service that they have come to expect, whilst providing a platform for us to attract a new audience with changing expectations of how we deliver our service in the future.

From the outset there was a collaborative approach which Edge facilitated and allowed key stakeholders to fully participate in the development, fostering a mutual ownership of what was eventually delivered.

We are delighted with Newark as a pilot for our new concept, our staff love their new home, business results are positive with new members attracted and most importantly our customer satisfaction ratings are higher than they have ever been.

We expect to use Newark as the template for further projects going forward.
