IWC Silver Spitfire – Heathrow T2

Specialist large-scale replica installation of the IWC Silver Spitfire at Heathrow Terminal 2.

The Client Challenge

IWC required the installation of a full-scale replica Silver Spitfire into the challenging, highly visible environment of Heathrow Terminal 2. This was an exceptionally high-risk project demanding complex rigging, strict adherence to load-bearing limits, and guaranteed public safety, all completed overnight with zero tolerance for error.

Edge Retail’s Integrated Solution

Our role was critical in the technical development and installation. We provided expert engineering oversight, including calculating weight distribution and developing a safe, secure rigging strategy. We ingeniously concealed the one-ton replica’s crucial metalwork structure within the black cladding. Rising to an impressive height of approximately 6 metres, the Spitfire’s elevated nose commanded attention, and we integrated extra LED lighting and IWC branding for immediate visibility throughout the terminal. Our dedicated specialist installation team executed the complex manoeuvre and secure fixing of the large-scale replica, managing all aspects of airport logistics, security clearance, and health and safety compliance for the duration of the build.

Impact and Results

The installation was completed flawlessly and on time, creating a breath-taking centrepiece for the IWC brand in one of the world’s busiest airports. We strategically positioned various areas to encourage customer interaction, including high-end bespoke maps detailing the world-conquering route of the actual aircraft. Moreover, we incorporated large, illuminated 3D branding for the “#SilverSpitfire” feed, creating numerous opportunities for memorable selfies and enhancing the overall experiential aspect of the display. This project powerfully demonstrates our unique capability to handle complex, high-risk, large-scale replica fabrication and installation in demanding public environments.
